Hi, hope this is the right place to post this, i'm having some problems with my kA and need some advice.

Basically my kA has done just over 77k miles and in the run up for each of the last few services it's had, there have been very loud tappet noises coming from the engine. The guys at the garage have adjusted them each time and made the noise go away, but after about 8 months it returns again. The last time it went for a service they said that the tappets were at the limit of their adjustability so would be hard to adjust again.

I dont know if this recurring tappet problem has brought about this second problem or what, because i'm pretty clueless when it comes to engines, but over the last few weeks the car has been juddering alot when I accelerate. It's as if it's struggling to pull the weight of the car. This problem seems to have got alot worse the past few days because i had to do a 400 mile round trip this weekend. On the way back the juddering was getting so bad that i was having trouble going up hill without having to change down to 4th or even 3rd when i shouldn't have had to.

Anyway, the car's coming up for a service this month and what i'm after is advice as to what you guys reckon the problem is. The last thing i want is for the guys at the garage to say that the problem's terminal without me knowing what they're on about!

Hiya,

Do you have the Endura-E engine or the newer Duratec engine? if you have the Endura-E engine then that noise is common, the engine design itself dates back to the Ford Anglia!!!! all tappets eventually work themselves loose. it's just a case of getting them adjusted every service... nothing really to worry about
