just a quick question to those in australia, when i brought my zetec i was reading through the manuals (as you do) and in the warrenty book on page 24, it says the power output is 85kw.....o.k now go to your 'owners manual' page 182 and it says 74 kw.

i asked my salesperson this and he didn't have an answer...obviosly a miss print but hey, i would say thats misleading information wouldn't you????

Specs in manual for fiesta

it also says that it has 156 nm which is 10nm more than the ford website says.. first thing i checked was if the manual was for a differnt spec fiesta.. (perhaps european spec) but it had my local ford dealerships printed out in it so i guess it is the aussie spec..
i am also very confused as to what is going on.
One thing i have noticed is that the specs for CL focus are 156nm and 85kw. maybe the fiesta specs were confused and printed out as the focus specs????
just a possibility, but i do want an answer to this. a dyno would be able to tell us

Why...well my old car was a 1.6 2002 Laser and it had 76kw. But the Fiesta has the same engine size and much higher compression so with all things being equal, it must have more power (Duratec engine is 11:1 compression and the old Laser engine was 9.8 or something like that). Duratec is also tuned to run 95 RON fuel, which is premium (and the old Laser was tuned to run 91).

Now unless they restricted the output, it should have more power. And yes, a dyno will answer these questions.

I have found it runs heaps better on 98RON fuel...Recommend Caltex Vortex as it lower the fuel consumption too!

Id really like to think the Fiesta has 85kw. But i dont like to assume things like that because fact is that we could be very wrong

i dont want to get my hopes up and then find out that i was wrong

how about.... DYNO :D anyone keen for fork out to clear up this misunderstanding????

The new fiesta has a better engine to begin with over the CL focus so it would be natural to assume it has more power

the fiesta runs the 1.6 or 1.8 duratec engine, so the smaller version of my ST engine

The fiesta runs 1.25, 1.4 and 1.6L petrol duratec engines (Only 1.6L avaible in OZ). I have driven a few cars with similar engines and i can say that the fiesta engine does have balls for it's size.

I can get it dynoed if someone directs me to a dyno in the sydney area(around parramatta).

sorry dude, i live in newcastle. would not have a CLUE where a dyno would be in sydney. theres bound to be shitloads. just look it up in the yellow pages.
just make sure you have 98ron in the car and make sure its a cold day

get a big ass fan to pump air onto air intake and obviously have bonnet up

see what the lil pimp daddy beast is capable of.

Something to remember is that the engine is running 5 times the emission controls as the Laser, so the power output is restricted heavily. That is a big factor in engine performance, not saying you aren't possibly right, but it could be an explanation as to why the engine is not performing considerably over an earlier Laser engine of the same size - it's a newer more efficient design but has much tougher European emission controls to conform to.

like 15+ kw from a full exhaust??

You expect a gain from an exhaust system, but not much bigger than fitting a Laser with one. Emissions controls are not all exhaust related.

15kw from a full exhaust is a bit optimistic considering that would be an increase of 20% power, I think you'd consider yourself very lucky to get 10kw extra from a full exhaust system.
