Loose gear stick

Hiya guys, have looked at a fiesta today and am thinking about buying it. The gear stick seems very loose when out of gear. Is this usual for a fiesta or is it a syptom of a problem. Goes into gears fine but feels like you could easily find 1st instead of 3rd or reverse instead of 4th.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Smile Re: Loose gear stick

I have the same problem on my Mk4 1999 1.25 zetec fiesta, I was originally quite worried about it at first but it appears the retention spring on one side to centre the gearstick has broken/come unattached.

I have requested on 2 occasions that different garages can fix it for me (Me paying) but both have failed to even attempt it as it is not as straight forward as the Focus and similar models as they thought apparently so Id imagine your KA is the same.

I am used to it now, my only worry is though when I come to sell the car, I dont think you will find it a problem however its the cost of having it repaired Id mention to the seller if coming to buy it.
