MK3.5 Alternator Upgrade
Hi,
I'm doing a sizeable ICE install in my 1995 1.1 Fiesta Classic. The standard alternator is something terribly small and upon testing starts making horrendous noises and voltage drops when I put a big load on it. I've also managed to make the car stall by turning up the volume... My question is, are there any bigger alternators that are just drop in replacements? I've heard bits and pieces about MK1 Mondeo Turbo Diesel alternators but I don't know whether they can just replace my one. Of course if I up it too much I'll need to redo the alternator and battery wiring but I have a load of copper 4 gauge for doing that with anyway so that's not a problem. I'm looking for about 90A as that's what my amp is fused at (it's so powerful I'll never take it up to that level though).
And along the same lines, I might as well upgrade the battery while I'm there. Suggestions?
Cheers,
tox
