Question Mk6 Fiesta - Shifting noise when selecting reverse

Hi all,

I have had my 1.25 Fiesta for a few years now but have never been impressed with the shift into reverse gear.

Basically it graunches into reverse gear (with varying degrees of severity) and sometimes the car shudders as it does it!

I have had the brake fluid / clutch fluid bled and checked for air twice and now the clutch replaced – but still not perfect!

It seems to not do it if you come to a standstill in a forward gear and shift immediately to reverse, or if you hold the clutch in from neutral for 5 seconds or so before.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and or remedy, or have I just got a ‘built on a Friday afternoon’ car?

Sounds like clutch drag, if it's still under warranty Ford have a new procedure for this, you need to get it booked in if so.

Re: Mk6 Fiesta - Shifting noise when selecting reverse

Whilst the car was still in warranty Ford replaced the clutch in September 2006 as I believe they kept referring to clutch drag.

Is the procedure you speak of more recent than this?

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes it's recommended the input shaft splines are treated with a special grease to enable the friction plate to move more easily.
