Newbie Fiesta Mk3 urgent problem - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hi all

My son's 1994 Mk3 1.1 Fiesta has a problem with the engine cuting out.
It doesn't make any difference whetherthe engine is hot or cold, whether high or low revs, just keeps cutting out.
Last night he was going down a steep hill and the engine cut out leaving him with no brakes :eek
Luckily he managed to stop by using the handbrake as he wasn't going too fast, but it has really shook him up and I've banned him from using it until we know what is wrong.
I'm thinking maybe the fuel filter?
Any other ideas gratefully received...

Do you mean cutting out whilst accelerating, or when coming to a stop?

Seems it was the automatic choke not doing the right thing. Plus the air filter was totally clogged up with muck.

The loss of brakes wasn't actually a total loss, think my son may have panicked a bit, which i can't say I'm surprised at seeing as he only passed his test 3 weeks ago.
