Overheating/Burnt rubber smell

I have a w reg fiesta 1.25 with zetec engine. It recently started overheating and the temp gauge was going in the red, the car made a strange hoover type noise when i switched the engine off. I took it too the garage, they couldn't find anything wrong, they said that it heated up fast but that it stayed at middle of the gauge. It does now remain at the middle of the temp gauge, however the heat in the car even when the heaters is off is hot. I noticed that there is heat coming off the exhaust, (i was getting stuff out ot the boot and the heat from the exhaust was alot to say weh ad only been in the car for about 20 mins round the corner) There is a slight burning smell coming from under the bonnet and it intermittently makes this weird hoover type noise when i switch the engine off. ( isay hoover type noise as its the same noise the hoover motor makes when you turn it off).

Please help i have no idea what the problem is and as yet i have not managed to find a decent garage that i trust. I can't afford to throw money away unless it is the right problem....

I am aware that i have been driving faster than normal over the last 6 weeks, not sure if this has done some damage to the engine? I don't drive the car very far, it tends to spend most of the week outside my house, so i don't go on massive long journeys or anything....
Suggestions greatfully recieved.

Cheers

Can you get the heater to blow cold?

Re: Overheating/Burnt rubber smell

I'd firstly try a heater valve on this one.
