It's Fiesta Time At Ford

Ford will reveal its weapon in the light car market when it unveils the critically acclaimed Fiesta at this year's Melbourne International Motor Show.

The first public showing of Fiesta in Australia writes a new chapter for Ford in the light-car market segment.

"Fiesta is proof that we are committed to the light car-segment," said Ford Australia President Geoff Polites.

"We have been working towards introducing the best possible light-car to this market, and identified Fiesta as the vehicle that best fit this bill."

"Fiesta's contemporary European styling and award-winning driving dynamics will appeal to customers in the light-car segment. It is a fantastic driver's car."

The award-winning Fiesta has already proven itself overseas by beating off 20 rivals to win one of Germany's most coveted motoring awards – the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel 2002.

An independent jury panel classified the Fiesta among the top three cars in eleven of the twelve categories and it was an outright winner in the critical steering, transmission and design categories.

Fiesta is also one of the world's safest cars in the light car segment. It uses Ford's Intelligent Protection System (IPS) that provides a comprehensive package of protection technologies. The IPS features adaptive dual-stage front air-bags for the driver and front-seat passenger; pretensioners with load-limiting retractors on safety belts for front-seat occupants; and head restraints for all five seats.

"The new Fiesta's combined package offers drivers a unique ownership experience," said Polites. "I am sure that Australia will find it's worth the wait when the car goes on sale early next year."

Fiesta will be on display at the Melbourne International Motor Show from Friday February 28 through to Sunday March 9.

yeah needs a name change for sure sounds too much like festiva which causes confusion for us. either that or just call it a festiva.

i also think the focus should have been called a laser in the interest of sales every time a name change occurs it need to reatablish itself in the market and laser had 21years of this.

Actually Festiva is probably not such a bad idea. Apparently that was a hugely popular model for Ford even with its Kia quality concerns. Maybe an opportunity to cash in on the name. Looks good though. I like the fact that its similar looking to the Focus and its brings a little more cohesiveness to Fords lineup which is starting to look pretty damn excellent!!!

you have no idea how many times my little fiesta gets called a festiva. and from people in the motor industry too!!! ford sold squillions of these cars all over the world, and still people call it a festiva after i tell them it is a fiesta.

cant wait to see the new fiesta here. will be great! i have brochures at home and it looks great.

why is it that nearly every 'light' car looks the same these days, they all have the same 'tall body' shape.

Whats the difference between a festiva and a fiesta rsgerry. Please don't hit or yell at me either I like it. But it just looks like a small focus. Maybe they should call in Fuccus or something haha!
