Hi there, new member here asking for advice.
I've just bought a 10 year old Fiesta Diesel LX. It has no deadlocks or central locking and appears to have next to no security at all. I am sure that anyone could get into it using either just a coathanger to open the inside door handles or a screwdriver down the side of the lock barrel.
It only came with one key which has a red dot on it. Does that mean an immobiliser is fitted? If so, would that still mean any crack head can remove the lock, short out the wires and drive off with it?
Does anyone have any ideas for increasing the security? eg can deadlocks from later models be fitted? Is the wiring for central locking (that could then be linked to an alarm) already present? I do not want to go along the line of fitting steering wheel/handbrake locks, but any other suggestions would be very much appreciated.

The red dot means you have quite a sophisticated immobiliser called 'PATS' already fitted, deadlocks would require central locking which in turn would involve modules, wiring, door locks etc that may prove to be more than the cars worth.

Thank you very much for your reply. Can the PATS be bypassed by the average joyrider?

Not heard of one yet, the diesels are doubly safe having a second module attached to the fuel pump.
