mad Wheel Bearing

Hi all,

December last year I got my 54reg fiesta fully serviced and mot'd by kwik fit @ 31000miles, I've now done 2000miles since then and now the rear wheel bearing on the passanger side has gone, I supect that it was over tightened by the garage, I just want to ask really if I would be correct in my thinking, I could only put it down to them as the car dose 31k with no problem and then 2k after my service I have a problem seems abit funny to me, will be taking the car back to the garage tomorrow to get them to put things right

any one know how many mile on avg a bearing should last??

Re: Wheel Bearing

Rear bearings on the Fiesta are not of the old 'taper' type and so are not prone to failure if overtightened. We see them go at lower mileages than this; on yours it may well have been on the way out for a while but it's only when it gets really rough will it show up on test.

Re: Wheel Bearing

Thanks for your reply, the most weight I have had in the car is 4 adult people and that's not very offen, main use is to and from work.

when I had a look at it at the weekend, as I thought it was the locking nut had come loose, it looked like the outside bearing of the brum was tappered but I could be wrong as I didn't remove the drum, it's the inner bearing which has gone, thought it was best to leave it and take it back to them, surely tho if this was on the way out it would have been picked up when serviced it, as part of the service is to check all bearings, 2000 miles is not a lot, but again I could be very wrong, not worked in a garage for 10years so I know alot will have changed, I suppose I'm just suspect that a very short time after kwikfit having the car it go's wrong.
