When I filled my XT for the first time after 10000kms, the fuel guage, distance to empty and low fuel warning (it took 65 litres!) were very slow to read normal.
The guage took well over half an hour to read full. It was if the trip/ecm computer was doing a "10000km recalibration" as I have run the tank very low before and not experience the same behaviour.

I also experience the best economy yet, travelling over 560kms and still had fuel left!!

Is the magic 10000k relevent, or have I experienced
1. - A fuel/trip computer error and
2. - Was the good economy that followed just lucky concidence?

Dunno 'bout ya BA, but our EL fuel guage and trip computer are a bit dodgy too. One shows full whilst the other shows empty...

I noticed the trip trip computer didn't tally with the fuel gauge in my BA XR6 ute when I first took delivery of it.

"Distance to empty" showed about 560k after the first few fills (not good for an 80 litre tank) until I actually drove 773k's between fills on my holidays. It now shows over 800k's at each fill.

I can only put it down to the trip computers "artificial intelligence"!

The trip computers in these and Holdens are mildly 'intelligent'. To calculate DTE, the system looks at recent driving behaviour and fuel use and 'guestimates'. So, if you've just driven a long section of freeway with the cruise on, it'll 'guestimate' your future fuel use, and your DTE, base don economical driving. But if you've been fangin it, it will give you a shorter DTE.

I clocked up 10,000k's last week on a trip to Adelaide. I had driven about 810k's before I filled up and when I did it took about 80k's before the fuel guage finally showed the tank to be full, the low fuel light remained on for about 25k's!

I filled up in Adelaide (had 1/2 tank) and everything was normal again.

On the way home, after about 720k's, I filled up and again it took about 80k's for the guage to read full. The interersting part is I stopped overnight at a motel after only driving about 30k's and in the morning the gauge was showing about a 1/4 of a tank, and slowly rose to show full after I had driven about 50 k's or so the next day! I guess that rules out a sticky float arm.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what was the cause/fix?

My father ran out of petrol in his BA Fairmont Ghia 5.4 showing nealry 1/4 of a tank left.

I believe that was an early issue with BA's and should've been fixed at the first service
