300c

G'day folks.

Just interested in your views on the new 300C with the mighty HEMI 5.7L?

I know the car weighs a great deal (1873kg according to the specs) but from the (claimed) performance figures (0-100km/h in 6.4s) it looks like it's on par with the lighter SS and XR8 models.

It seems that this car will really set the cat among the pigeons. Really, the 5.7L is a toe-in-the-water exercise for the upcoming 6.1L.

I'm really excited about this machine arriving on our shores. Having sat in the Dodge Charger version of this car in the US recently, I wouldn't mind owning it. Should Ford/FPV/Holden/HSV be worried?

Interested in your thoughts. :)

I dont think it will be a direct competitor with the XR8/SS but more the fairlane and the statesman cause of the level of luxury options, but the 5.7 even with that engine managment that can shut down 2 cylinders is very thirsty.My manager at work was going to get one and they send heaps of emails about it but cant justify the high price tag,IMO ford and holden really have nothing to worry about.

The recent reports suggest the car was quite economical over their course. Perhaps they chose more highway running across their route and less of the twisty stuff.

Anyway, can't wait for a review in Motor as I'm sure they won't pit it against Fairlane/Statesman... more FPV/HSV (as the compete price-wise).

Good times ahead methinks. Hopefully petrol prices will fall and make V8s both affordable and acceptable once again. You need a big car for a big country!!!

In wheels this month they put it against,in the weirdest comarement a fairmont ghia and a caprice.WTF!

I hated the look of it initally, but have to admit it has grown on me a little. I have concerns about US build quality but have yet to see an example up close. It did sound nice at the Clipsal 500!! I'm a big fan of the LWB cars like Fairlanes, LTD's, Galaxies etc and I hope the 300c encourages Ford atleast to get more serious about development of this model if nothing else. Unfortunately that is unlikely IMO, but it may force both GM and Ford to introduce cylinder deactivation technology in Oz sooner. Depending on it's success the 300c may encourage HSV to continue with the Grange program as I think they were dropping it after VE (Is is not fact BTW).
