351 backfire

i removed my oil pump drive from engine replaced it had to take dizzy out , i have re-set timing , but under load its backfirin through carby , what could it be i have tried different timing settings and still the same , the car was sitting for a while with air cleaner off , i doubt it would be any dust etc in carby but am stumped , when dizzy was r&r the engine was not moved in any way

your dizzy is out a tooth. On TDC on the compression stroke the rotor needs to be pointing at no1 on the dizzy cap if it's out thats what happens. It's a common error.

compensate for what? do you think it's in the wrong position so you've tried to move it further around? if thats what you have done, well now that the engines been run you will have to completly re-time it as I described above.

i did that when i set no1 to tdc on compression atroke it is pointing directly to the no1 lead
