Question 351 into EB v8

Anybody know anything about converting an EB v8 into a 351 ? I have been lead to believe that changing crank/ pistons will change a 302 into a 351. Is this true ? If possible id also like to work it up to at least 300horse ( heres the kicker... on gas ).

Another concern for me is how strong the electronic 4 speeds are.

Any knowledge would be appreciated guys. ( im new to this ford stuff and know SFA. )

You cannot stroke the 302 Windsor into a 351
you can stroke it to a 347, but that is as far as it will go.
the 351 Windsor was a different block

The 4-speed autos are strong, but need a decent cooler and regular fluid changes. Putting good quality bands is also a good idea if you are rebuilding it.

As DK said, the 347 stroker kit is the most common stroker kit available. There is a 351 standard bore stroker kit available, but it is not reliable, due to the rod angle, and generally only used in race engines where they are rebuilt often.

If the engine is built for gas, 300hp should be quite easy with around 347ci.

In a car mag a few years ago there was an EB running a 351 Cleveland on straight gas. Had a full touring car kit and was registered.

You can convert a 302 Cleveland to a 351 Cleveland by using the 351 crank.....

EBXR is correct, I've seen that too and it's good to know the EPA and the boys in blue should be off ya back coz you have it on straight gas too. I would be inclined to have the clevo as an EFI setup though with twin Gas Reasearch throttle bodies.

Was that a Yellow EB guys?

There is one local to me running a blown 351C and he gets away with it because he is running straight gas.

I still think the Windsor is the GO, nice little engine that revs and no where near as heavy as a Clevo.

Im baffled as to the difference between a windsor and a cleveland. Whats the pros / cons ? I assume it is a windsor in the EB's. I wouldnt mind sticking with the windsor as i could use the stock inlet if it flows enough and still look stock. Will a cleve bolt up to the existing auto, or is it all just one big pain in the ass ? ( Maybee just *GASP* buy a commode where its all so much easier...)
Any ideas welcome.

Hey Lister_of_SMEG

If you want a V8 EB, then buy a factory V8 EB. Or buy a wreaked V8 EB and transfer the parts to your car. That would be the Windsor Motor, which is a 302. You can't convert a 302 windsor to a 351. You could buy a 351 Windsor from the USA, and get that engineered to fit.

The Cleveland Motor (302 and 351) is the motor where you change the rods and crank to convert a 302 to a 351. Clevelands are wider than the windsor, and heavier as well.

If you are just chasing the 300hp mark on gas, go for a 302 Windsor, and get that modified. You will have less hassles than if you tried for a 351 (either windsor or cleveland). Power to weight ratio is better too...

I've only heard of people importing an older style 4sp auto for running behind the cleveland. From what I've heard, it is a pretty good conversion.

Hope this helps.
