99 AU Wagon electrics issues - Ford Forums

Hi,

MY 99 Au Futura Wagon seems to be doing some weird things. brake lights do not work, fuses ok, lights not blown. when i tap the brakes the front left parker comes on!

when i turn on my headlights, my brake lights come on and stay on!

any thoughts? i think it may be an earth/broken wire issue. before i start looking into it any further has anyone else had similar experiences?

I've seen some cases of internally-shorted brake globes that caused symptoms similar to what you described. Remove them one at a time to determine which one is at fault. I've also seen people fit single filament globes to the brakes, which should be double filament, causing similar problems and a couple of times where the main ground strap at the rear of the car being loose, altough this will also cause starting problems, as this is the same ground used by the fuel pump. cheers

Thanks! you were spot on. just found the problem globe, the brake filament within the globe had fused to the parker filament somehow. replaced the globe and all good.
