was sitting at the lights and had a bit of an episode. was going from about 600 down to right near the 0 line every 2 secs. really lumpy. at one dip it got real low and all my lights dimmed. after that i just sat there with it stalled up cos i didnt want to stall out. wtf is wrong with my car. the crappy idle session today was so rhythmic it feels like a cam or lifter thing.

You know the worst thing about THIS problem is that it is seemingly hard to pin point exactly what causes it. Every thread on it (mostly EA's) seem to replace all kinds of stuff. MAF, ISC, throttle cable etc etc....
Crazy..

Congratulations. You are still alive. Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you. Not anymore.
I had problems with the idle in my EF a while ago, and I changed the spark plugs, ignition leads and throttle cable and it was fixed, but there are 100000's of things it could be.
it had whats in my sig minus the filter and plugs, which went in over 5000kms ago. it was running like a dream till about 1 month ago. its not in the best nick, needs new suspension and brakes and is slower than a gli. i think its showing how flogged its been.

Before you start pulling the car to pieces and spending a fortune at Ford spares, grab a can of carby cleaner and a 10mm (?) socket.
Rip (or unbolt) the ISC off. It's right on top of the throttle body (I'll get a photo if you need). Once it's off, you'll see two holes on the base. Fill them with carby cleaner, leave it to sit, repeat one or two times. Whack it back on and see if that helps.
