16,000ks on my XR8 ute and besides a front suspension rattle when it hits a sharp edge bump everything has been good.
I've had the rattle in twice and the first time was told it was the sump guard missing 2 bolts which they replaced. That made no difference. Then i was told the steering rack was a bit loose and they tightened it but that's made no difference either.
Only fault i've had and it doesn't seem to affect anything except make a noise so i'm happy with the ute.
OH THE RATTLE? it was inside the door, maybe the door trim cause it squeeked a bit too. but the dealer fixed it (just before running into the hoist), check my post in BUMPER SCRAPES thread.
also BEARMAN.... how did you scam new tyres after 30k??? mine were really bald by 30k and it was steering badly when they changed them there were maybe 10 cracks from the bead all the way to the tread of the tyre. IT WAS REALLY BAD!!!made me really glad it had not completely failed and blown out. i would have thought it would have been nearing the end of the tyres life and they would have used that as an excuse.

Dunno!! They just replaced them. I knew nothing about sidewall cracks in these tyres until the service guy told me they'd replaced them under warranty. No ifs, no buts. I'd say Ford and Dunlop had come to an arrangement. I checked out my invoice for the service and an item marked "check for cracks on tyres" is listed. Looks like it's a standard check on all Fords presenting with these tyres manufactured within a range of dates. I was stoked at getting new tyres but at the same time concerned about tyre failure. If they had risk assessed the chances of tyre failure at greater than low risk they would have done a blanket recall and replaced the lot I'd imagine. As it was they checked all 4 of mine and found cracks in 2.
Oh yeah, at 30,000km they still had heaps of meat on them nearly 50%. The previous owner probably drove like an old mole and I certainly don't thrash it either or do burnouts etc.

Hit 33,000ks in my Auto XR8 Ute on the weekend. No real dramas besides the brake shudder but that'll be fixed soon enough. On the subject of tyres, mine have worn very true and still have a little meat left, always run at 40psi.
Good to hear of other happy drivers. Enjoy.

i have a 2003 XR8 bought it second hand have done about 5000km's, its now up to 23000km's, no major probs have had the radiator replaced and the fuel pump, but besides that no problems. Denmac ford Ipswich where right onto these problems and fixed them no hassles.
Its actually quite refreshing to see someone post something positive about their car (thats not performance related) rather than the usual problems. Yeah I know if build quality was better we'd all be happy....
While I don't own a BA I can honestly say I've had an awesome run with the AU. All the problems I have had have been self inflicted - destroying clutch, bald tyres etc.[/quote]
I agree, it is really great that someone has writen about the joy of driving their car. So many of the post that I used to read were full of whinging and whining about the smallest issues that really are not issues at all and often easily fixed under warranty. The other thing that I noticed was that the biggest whingers were the guys/gals who had "self inflicted" problems but were too stubborn or stupid to admit it, they just wanted it covered under warranty.
As for tyres, mine have done a hard 36,000k's (a lot of it on the track) and are now due for replacement. I run 40psi everyday and they have worn very evenly so keep the pressures up guys/gals.
Enjoy your driving, thats what it should be about!
