Was driving along fiddling with the tiptronic auto and noticed if you put it in neutral when cruising you can only rev it to 3000rpm- it will not let you rev it any harder than that. Thats fine with me but why would Ford bother programming that. Is this the case for the V8's?
Just seems a bit strange, but i guess it could be safety related??????
you will find that it is for saefty reasons, so noone can redline the auto & dump it.... a mate at fpv showed it working on a manual as well, except it would rev to 4000 and no further with the cluch in.
It's right across the range, it would make EPA exhaust tests interesting in an Auto as they usually put it in Neutral and rev to 2/3 of maximum RPM, 3000 is only 1/2 max RPM.
Its also going to have a something to do with the damage one can cause to ones auto if you rev it in Neutral. Apparently the BMW auto's were known to be damaged quite easily by doing this. Sounds like a good idea to me to limit it.
