Can it be done? A friend of mine might be considering doing this to his S Pac sedan soon, either AU or ED. I would assume the ED would fit, seeing that was basically what was in the XG. But we would prefer to stick with the AU engine, if possible.
Yes it can be done, well, in a XE anyway. There's a Red XE ESP with a turbo 4.0Ltr AU Engine running straight LPG doing 10.4 quater mile times. I think his name is Jason Ghiller, and I think he works for/at Gas Research in Dandenong, Vic.
Can be done... but at great expense and time. And yeah, Jason's XE is a fine example of an AU powered XF... only one I know of.
As for fitting an EA-ED engine in an XF, you would have to grab the 4.0l engine from an XG and take the engine mounts and gearbox with you. as the 4.0l engines had a different bell housing and mounts to the 4.1l engine's.
my dad has an xg ute he bought a AU XR6 engine from ford for $800 because it was recalled. Had a so called ticking sound at low revs it went straight in everything fitted only trouble was the ecu needed to be reprogrammed. It has the standard xg 4 speed auto and it hits 160 in 2nd no bullshit
