hi all i am pulling my au's motor apart tomorrow to get the head planed and i am just wondering am i going to have to redo the time and whats involved? or if i be careful and dont move the timming chain make sure it goes back into same spot would that be ok and is there any other things i may run into ??? also how much can you take off the head ? its fully standard at the moment

its a au falcon (forte) 2000 model straight 6 sedan (OHC)

for the timming would a need a flash thing??? or can you just adjust the chain ? i thought u could do it by chain placement but a mate says its done by the computer and id need a flash tool wich i can get my hands on one for my car but not for a few weeks so i was hopeing theres a way around it anyways thanks for any help guys

UPDATE:
pulled the head out was unable to plane it as its already planed heaps but the surface is fine so all good changed the gasket from the crappy thin tin one to a thicker material/metal one got the head back on but now the timming gear wont slide onto the shaft even if i pry it up with a screwdriver or something it wont go any ideas what ive done how to get it on ???
i think the chain has gotten a little slack and dropped down over the bottom gears a half tooth or something if anyone has any ideas or help would be great thnx
