Re: Au motor in the EA SVO

yeah I can hotwire it across the relay spot, the car cranks but... the haynes manual said something about it not starting because of smartlock when you short the starter so I hope thats why it doesn't start otherwise I'm just getting confused!

Re: Au motor in the EA SVO

I'm running the AU computer and engine loom only the dashboard loom and body loom are not au, I have ED ghia Dash and original Ea body loom.

I don't think thier is spark or ignition because if I short the starter it doesn't even begin to fire just turns.

Re: Au motor in the EA SVO

Perhaps your ECU relay is gone? When I did my BBM conversion my ECU relay blew for some stupid reason and it took me about over a week to find the problem. There are two Big relay's under a bunch of small ones in the engine bay near the battery, the big brown one is the ECU relay. Plug one in from another car and see if that works, it's worth a shot....

Re: Au motor in the EA SVO

If you turn the key on and hear the fuel pump prime, the ECU relay's fine. Anyway, it can be bypassed just like the starter relay.
You need to check it's getting power, if so and no spark/injection, I reckon Smartlock.
The other option is a fault in the ignition system, that can cause a similar effect.
Oh wait, are you running the EA or AU ignition? If it's EA, that's your problem :)

Re: Au motor in the EA SVO

hes saying its not even cranking though, unless he jumps the starter to the battery?

if youre 100% sure youve got +12V on the starter solenoid wire when you turn to start, and youve got power to the starter, maybe you have a dodgy earth thats not giving you enough current?

Re: Au motor in the EA SVO

found the problem, still hasn't started though.

The Starter relay earth is ground through the computer. which in a series 2 is controled be smartshield not smartlock.

I don't have smartshield. I have smartlock, hence not working.

I have now replaced the computer with a series one AU comp. now I have found that the difference in Smartlock through the years has changed the frequency sent to the comp. hence smartlock still disables my engine, but with a series one it cranks and it has proper spark. problem is there aint injector pulse.

I have purchaced a Smartlock "bypass box" which cost me a pretty penny, so I don't have to replace the entire dash and wiring and BCM and Ignition barrel and all my wiring.

Anyone thinking of doing this please, I beg for you to wait until I have got mine started its one big mutha of a job for no good reason, so far. but hopefully it will go fast soon!
