Hey guys

Was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I am about to order a stage 2 Cam from Crow Cams for my AU. Now as this is the first car i have begun 'real' engine work, so I am unsure. I have a stage 1 unichip which according to Crow should be ok with the Cam, but they mentioned that it wasnt compatible with a XR6 chip or Variable timing.
Now its time to sound stupid and ask... Explain the variable timing, would this be an issue in an AU1 Fairmont? and does anyone know if the stage 1 unichip is infact an equivalent to the XR6 Chip??

Has anyone done something like this before?

As you could imagine, i dont want to spend the $400 dollars on the cam if its not going to work with the chip i already have!

Pretty sure the AU Fairmont had the standard (ie non-VCT) engine. If it's a Ghia, it will have the VCT (Variable Cam timing). Easiest way to check is to lift the bonnet. If it doesn't have "VCT" stamped in or on the rocker cover, it's a normal 157kw motor and you should be right with the cam. Same goes for the XR6 chip - if it's a Ghia, it porbably has a smiliar chip, if not, then it will just have the standard chip for the standard motor (plus your stage 1 chip).
