Over the weekend myself and some friends were discussing the BA and in particular the XR6 NA.
An "animated discussion" started then went something like:
The AU XR6 HP sedan was quicker across the 400m than the AU XR6 VCT sedan.
This seems to be due to it's lighter weight, not having IRS even though it has higher max output (172kw vs 164 kw) and higher max torque (366Nm vs 374Nm).
The BA XR6 NA produces max power of 182Kw & max torque of 380Nm but weighs another 100kg more.
Now which is quicker over 400m, BA XR6 NA or AU XR6 HP?
Actual experience rather than theoretical answers would be appreciated as we have already (together with a 700ml bottle of Bundy) run this race many times in theory.
N.B. No mods please just stock with stock tyres.

Let him that hath understanding count the number of the BEAST:
for it is the number of a F6 Typhoon; and its number is 0217.
Is that a challenge, Cobra??? Nah, seriously, I wouldnt really wanna take on an AU XR8....Cobra, is yours auto?
When it comes to launching them off the line, I really do think it comes down to the driver in a lot of cases too - I am no good at it... most you know I was beaten by my Dad's AUI Fairmont (auto) a while back - however, that was without chip, and with slipping clutch... havent had a rematch yet.
However, I have taken down a Supercharged S recently, and always Magnas (VR-Xs)....But V8s? I wouldnt be confident, even with the chip...
I think this is a good question though, re AU XR6 and BA XR6.... I would like to think I would get over the line without a chip...I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure - perhaps I will have something to contribute soon - I'll be on the lookout for some AU XR6s now!!!!

Strider has an XR6 HP manual and I have a BA XR6 N/A Auto.
Strider's has a cat back exhaust & the EF/BA intake mods, while mine just has the turbo snorkel.
The weight and gearing factor (manual vs auto) sees Strider get around half a car length on me at the launch almost every time, but after that there is nothing between us up to illegal speeds.
If both cars were manual and completely stock, I reckon it would come down to who had the better reaction time and who's tyres gave better traction. The extra power in the BA N/A 6 only really compensates for the extra weight - it certainly doesn't make it any faster than the AU HP6.

the fastest standard manual ba xr6 i have seen pulled a 14.98. the fastest au xr6 standar was around 15.2. check car mags most manual ba are aroun 15.0 to 15.28. fastest au xr time was 15.33 (MOTOR mag). thats pretty close in anyones language
Hehehe we at the 3FB skunk works have tested it on a few occasions. I will say though, the BA has a lusty top end power, that compensates the weight. If it wasn't due to the lightness of the AU the BA will catch me out. I will go as far as saying that a BA XR6 5 speed manual would beat an AU XR6 HP. As well as drivers reaction/skill LSd plays a significant role in manuals.

Ok to end the argument...I have stock manual BA XR6 with standard air filter. Mate has an AU XR6 HP manual with cold air intake and finer filter. Bottom end - there's nothing in it. After 4000rpm BA creeps (only just) forward, slam the next gear BA gets about a car length in front. (Its damn close). Did this numerous time with the same result. However off the line it could come down to getting the start right. BA is bit of a lard-arse - i'de like to see some major weight reductions for BAII.. BA with finer filter and bigger cold air intake would be an interesting comparison.

ide think on average the XR6 BA would be quicker across the 1/4....entirely because it is the easiest car to launch in the world!!...thats in AUTO form anyway. so i rekon comparing two autos....on average BA would kick arse
