tis the carbon canister, purge valve solenoid that makes that terrible clicking noise...

Re: AU1 XR8 problem noise

Yep it's the purge vale solonoid, I replaced it on my AU XR8 as well. Cost me around $95.00 and it comes with all hoses attatched and quite easy to replace. If you want to just quieten the ticking sound a bit, insulate it with foam and tape it up, works ok. To get at it you have to go from underneath the front by taking off the stone tray/spash guard attatched to your bumper.

It might still be working however it isn't supposed to tick... dealer should replace if under warranty. I had the same issue and it was replaced immediately.

Re: AU1 XR8 problem noise

I used to have an AU1 XR8 and it also made the same noise. The dealer said they all do it and refused to fix it under warranty. I later found out other dealerships did replace the faulty part (with positive results) under warranty.
I even had one smart arse tell me, "Your tickford is ticking".
