AU2 Stalling when coming to a stop - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hi all im new to this forum and looking for genuine answers not just guesswork,, i have a ba xr6 and have recently purchased an au2 4.0 6cyl with only 63,000kms on it , for the last 2 months the au has been great no probz at all but since doin a 1000km round trip last weekend, whenever i come to a stop at traffic lights or stop signs the car hesitates and stalls, now ive noticed the car idles at around 800-850 rpm in neutral or park, but in drive its idling at around 350-400 rpm, so far ive done an ECU reset, ive tightened inlet manifold bolts, checked vac hoses, but still no success and the last thing i want to do is take it to a dealer and have my pants pulled down over the price and get no result, so has anyone had this problem and ideas on what the problem is

will most likly be the idle solinord on top of throttle body you can pull it of and tryy cleaning it see how that goes.
You may need a new one.

so far ive cleaned the idle speed stepper motor which is the same as what u mentioned, ive tightened inlet manifold bolts, and reset ecu and im actually quite lost, the rpms still drop to around 400 rpm and then shudder n stall when coming to a stop, mechanics ive spoken to have advised to do the above but still no success, perhaps ive just bought a lemon lol such is life

Have you done a compression test on it?

yes and all cylinders have good readings as expected from a 63,000km car

try this with it idlerling in park disconnect the idle control motor.
If the revs drop it is ok and there are other issues.
If it does not drop the idle motor it self is the fault and will need replacing.
lso on the side of the throttle body is a little screw it should have paint on it if it dosnt or is crack someone may have temperd with it.

i disconnected the idle stepper solenoid motor thing and the engine stopped straightaway

solinord is working it maybe that some on has playyed with the throttle plate screw on the side.

yeah mate found it,, car seems to be running fine now took it out last night and stopped plenty of times without stalling, so whether it was the idle solenoid cleaning or the ecu reset that fixed it i have no idea, thanks heaps for ya help
