Could anyone please tell me how to find out if my Fairmont Ghia AUIII V8 is a 175kw or a 185kw. The manual states both but does not tell you how to distinguish between the two.
What made the power difference between the two?
Probably not a big deal but it would be nice to know.
All standard V8 falcons (and fairmonts) in the AU range came with 175kw - even the "Tickford" ones (actually, Tickford didn't touch the engines, just the suspension.
The 185 may have been in the LTD, but was also the AU1 XR8. AU2 XR8 was 200 and AU3 XR8 was 220. The LTD was rated at 185 as a result of having a dual system front to back.
The XR6 was 164 in HP guise, or 172 for the VCT (to help with the added weight of IRS).
Add a set of Pacemakers and a 3" system to your "standard" V8 and you will be close enough to 200kw it's not funny.

Love to know how you can get 25 kw out of an exhaust on one of them. I did that exact thing to my 96 XR8 and got 12kw, 25kw is wishfull thinking me thinks. But I could be wrong...

Wouldn't you love to say that about your car?You loosers
Even the standard AU V8 had the better heads etc than what came out on the E series (EL2 XR8 aside). Yes, 25kw is a lot for an exhaust, but mine went from 119rwkw to 142 rwkw with exhaust, K&N Panel Filter and 70mm TB (and painted rocker covers, lol) - the bigger TB was worth maybe 1 or 2 rwkw, so that's 20-odd rwkw just from the exhaust, which is about 25 at the flywheel.
