so what's the deal with the automatic XR8's.
i have just seen one at peter warren smithfield.
a mercury silver XR8 automatic.
so, finally they have an auto to handle the BOSS.

does anyone have more details on the auto?

all i know is that i have seen one.

I heard a RUMOUR that the boss was detuned to 240Kw so that the Auto can handle it (This was from a 'Holden' mate). Anyone know if this is true? Can anyone at/from Ford categorically deny this (even better than if it was true).

Detuning. That makes no sense. Does it then follow that the GT would be simularly detuned to say 245kw so that the auto had handle the power. Surely not. Scurrilous rumour only.

Delay in releasing auto was to make sure it could handle 260/290 kW and more importantly all the torque instead. I bet your Holden mate brings up fuel economy regarding BA as well since thats the only thing in the tini'dore's favour.

Just saw an XR8 Evaluation vehicle on the road tonight. Had the old style bonnet which caught my eye straight up, and when he gave it a bit and merged into another lane... kickdown! It was an auto. Picked up pretty rapidly.
Sounded the goods too!

Yep auto's are trickling into the market, and yes they are all 260kw confirmed by Peter Warren Smithfield.

Your mate is talking BS about the power detunning,it's the torque that would destroy the box and did he say anything about that,I remember someone once saying that if the BA XR8 and T3's both had 260/250 kw and 500nm then why would Ford have to uprate the auto for the BA why not just use the auto from T-series they seemed to cope with the 500nm alright,hmn!!!!!.
