I'm considering buying a BA V8 Fairmont but desperately want the bonnet bulge.

Does anyone know whether the XR8 bonnet could be put on a Fairmont? Would there be any issues in relation to the grill of the Fairmont vs that of the XR? Would a dealer do the job for me or do I have to go somewhere else?

Any information that anyone could shed on this subject would be appreciated.

I have read in other forums that Ford will ask you for you VIN number to ensure you have an XR8 as they do not want them fitted on XR6s. I think they quoted a ridiculous figure - over $3000 to scare customisers off.

They look awesome though, Ford should have made the XR6T look different to the standard XR6. A bonnet bulge would have been great.

I can understand why you like the look of the XR8, being an owner myself, but I think you would just look like a try hard if you put one on a Fairmont. Bit like those guys who stick Turbo badges on NA XR6's or remove badges of Subaru RX's in the hope someone mistakes their car for a WRX. It just looks real sad.

Better to stick with the Fairmont, which is a conservative, but classy car, or go full hog and get yourself a real XR8. Other then climate control air, there is bugger all between the two when you start to option an XR8 anyway.

I agree with Daniel, it'd look 'try hard' but also very weird on a fairmont.

Then again, its your car and i spose if you like it that way then thats all that matters hey?

To those who wonder why the Fairmont instead of the XR8, the reason I'm going for the Fairmont V8 is that I like the "wolf in sheep's clothing" approach. I drive an AU Fairmont V8 and it is the best car I've ever owned or driven. Besides, the one big drawback of the XR8 is that you don't get the legendary V8 badge on the side!

I thought about a Fairmont ghia with a v8, but no - it didn't happen, ended up with the XR8 - and a good choice too.

much happier - as for the bonnet, can be done if you find a "friendly" dealer.

I'm not sure about the bonnet bulge myself, I don't think it would go with the stock front.
Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't a stock V8 fairmont ghia quicker to 60 than a XR8

I'm still wondering... how does that philosophy work? A wolf in sheep's clothing, yet with a "look at me!" bonnet bulge sorta gives the game away. Unless it's a wolf in sheep's clothing in wolf's clothing?

I'm not saying it'd look silly (bonnet bulges are horn), but your view on what you want your car to be sorta defeats its own purpose!
