BA Dashboards... Armoural OK?

The BA dash is a lot different to the AU dash. The BA dash always looks on the verge of fading.

Is armoural OK to use on it? What are your experiences?

Do they make decent looking dashmats?

Re: BA Dashboards... Armoural OK?

I have a dashmat on mine, but it's not stuck down. I didn't like the idea of sticking double sided tape onto the dash. The downside is that either it slides off occasionally if I boot it uphill, or if there is a passenger, they have to hold it in place when it slides.

Hmmmm OK...

But I'm using Armourall leather treatment on my leather... is it OK on the dash or should I go for another brand alltogether?

Re: BA Dashboards... Armoural OK?

When I bought mine I optioned a dash mat. I asked about Armoural and the accessories sheila said it would cause vinyl to crack because Amoural is oil based and would "fry" the vinyl. I find this a bit interesting because vinyl is oil based too and should keep it "wet". The same sheila then went on to try and sell me Wynns Vinyl Protection....So I guess her word doesn't mean jack.

My mates got an XW Fairmont GS which he's used Armoural on from new, parks in the sun all day, and still looks like new.
Another mates got an ED Falcon, used Armoural, and within 3 years it cracked.
So buggered if I know.

Sun's the biggest killer, so I just try and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Maybe invest in a dashmat and one of those shiney, reflective windscreen cover thingys.

that is pretty true in most cases!!!!

the accessories girl ( ever wonder why they nearly always have a spuncky girl ) is there to sell you their pruducts at a hugely inflated price and so ,of course any other product is not going to work. she is often on a commission as well so its anything to make a sale.

pays to shop around before signing anything.

Re: BA Dashboards... Armoural OK?

armoural should not damage it but there are other brands that will give the same protection and dont leave the oilly finnish like armoural does.

meguirers , mothers , series 500 , etc ,there are lots to choose from.

i would definitly recomend useing some kind of treatment.

one of the biggest killers of the interior is the UV from the sun.
the factory laminated windscreen will stop the UV coming in the front but to stop it from coming in the sides and the back you need to have your windows tinted with a film. what the factory calls tinted glass is only a light stain in the glass itself and will not give the protection you need.

so a good window tint , some vinyl treatment occasionally and if you like a mat, and the dash and the rest of your interior should look good for many years to come.

P.S. myself and the original onwer have used armoural on the vinyl roof and the dash of my XB Fairmont since it was new and it still looks good ( dash has one small crack ).

Re: BA Dashboards... Armoural OK?

That's my big question I suppose... My AUII dash was armor alled a few times in 2 years and it kept it like new. Also the top of the door skins were armor alled and were like new.

The BA dash, some of the centre console and door skins are a totally different kind of vinyl/plastic.

I just don't want to treat it with one of these products to find it makes it worse.
