I have a BA falcon XT with about 30000km and if I havent started it for about a week it takes a while to start and after it does start it splutters and rattles for about a minute before idling smoothly. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Also sometimes when I start it, it will cut out right after starting and take about 20 seconds of cranking to get it going again. I took it to the dealer because it is still under warranty but they just told me there are no error codes on the engine computer.
Seems an unknown gremlin that may effect the cam phasers, or some such.
Have had the odd rough start, but cant find a cause.
Runs fine after that though.

Turn it off than back on usually idols ok after that
I know its new, but have a look at the plugs - they can be buggered from the factory and cause rough idling and surging at low revs. You could be running a bit rich too.
Do you have problems straight after you fill it up with fuel?

My XT does the same thing, one day I washed it, parked it out on the road, and then went to drive it again and it took 5 times to start it, I wasnt happy considering it only had 10,000 kms on it. Today it nearly stopped at the lights to, weird, I cant wait to get another new one, im over this poor early build quality.
1. After leaving it for 4 hours on an angle (downwards). It didn't start on the first go. It did on the second, but was sounding like a lawnmower. I reversed it out and indicated it was on lip home mode - 30km/h or whatever. I pulled over. Turned it off and it was find. The ford guys replaced my throttle and it was fine after that.
2. Since then, it's been a bit hit and miss. I've had some strange failures at servos where I've started the engine okay, but it's passed out in 3 seconds. I don't pump the accel.
I have the same problem, If i let the car sit for a few days, it has troubles starting, once it starts it runs like a dog. Surprise - Surprise since there are no codes Ford can't find a problem.

Wait till you get the stalling glitch in big traffic.
Apparently they're still waiting for the software update to arrive, but who knows..?
They will no how to fix it when its out of warranty and your handing over cash!Father inlaw has the same problem both getting it fixed and diagnosed properly.
Cheers TS 50
My ute has konked out twice, going around a corner slowly with clutch
pressed in. I have no idea why, it's like the idle drops too low.
Steering becomes REALLY heavy after the engine's stalled .
Cheers, Paul
