I have recently bought a BA Falcon XT and have noticed that the car stays in third gear at 60km/h, and changes into fourth at 70km/h.

I would like to know if this is normal, as the AU Falcon changes into fourth at 60km/h.

sounds fairly normal to what ive experieced.. they dont like goign into 4th :)

yeah its normal,just put it into manual mode and change gear to get into 4th below 70

if you put it in performance.. does it change to 4th at all? (like when cruising) or do you have to do like 160km/hr, to get into 4th?

ive been cruising along the freeway and have slipped into performance mode and it didnt go into 4th at all(got to about 150)

in perf mode 4th is sposed to be 140 i think
i generally row it myself when im going hard tho.

hmmm... i spose for most road speeds 3rd is fine and offers greater acceleration.. hense perfomance mode without the need of a gear change.

What do you mean "performance mode", I didn't think they had the normal switch like older models. If you mean moving the stick across to the left, my understanding is it won't change gear until you use the semi-auto feature.

It used to be that with a manual or auto, that placing them into an overdrive gear under 80 kph put excessive load on the front input shaft bearing.
I heard that from a few mechanics at different times.
Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Certainly on our 96 falcon, it doesn't like overdrive at under 70-80 kph.
