Being June and therefor Tax Time I decided it was time for another car.
Tradein offered for 2002 build BA Fairmont Ghia, 42,000km, sunroof and a few extras was $24K (50% depreciation over 2 years).
Looking at 2003 GTP auto, 35,000km.
Should I?

Bloody good trade in price.A Ford dealer in Adelaide is trying to sell me a 2004 BA Fairmont Ghia (65000ks) for $29,000.As for buying the GTP,hard one, personel choice really.
I am thinking of buying a Fairmont Ghia at the government auctions.
It's a 2003 model (Built Feb 03), with 16,000km on it.
What do you think is a good price for it?

Just goes to show you perhaps you should be looking at a R8 commodore.
You wont loose so much money and a car that holds better value.
That depreciation is a Grand a month and then another $800.00 for repayments
Thats a very expensive Fairmont to own !!!!!!

How do you come that that conclusion? The HSV R8's on average loose their value quicker than the GT-P's. Same with the GT's vs Clubsports. For example go to redbook.com.au, look up an average price on a 2003 GTP and then a 2003 R8. For example a 2003 series 1 R8 trades between $39k & $44k with a 2003 series 1 GTP trading in between $46k & $52k. Big difference in the FPV's favour. Even if we look at a Series 2 R8, its trade in value ranges between $42k & $47. The GTP is still the better option.

I figure I missed the time to trade-in by about 6 months and I may as well run the Ghia into the ground (or at least for another couple of years). The dealer had a bit of a cry but that's life. Next time I think I'll buy the 2 year old one in the first place and keep it for 2 years before buying another 2 year old car.
To address the fun factor I bought a 2 wheel toy that has already depreciated in value but by no means in fun. Yamaha TRX850, a Japanese bike that sounds like a Ducati, but can make the return trip home as well.
