Question BA i6 v BA 220 V8

hello.

quite simply my dad is looking at getting a BA Falcon. My mum is sick of his i6 Falcon engine woes, and my dad wants a reliable car, but is unsure on an i6 BA or a 220 V8 , as he dosnt want the attention of a XR6/8 .. so quite simply is the BA XT v8 220 worth looking at? ie fuel wise, performance.. or is the i6 itself just as quick.. and relaible, Ford kept plugging the XR6/8 and told us not many 220 V8 are ordered..any ideas? the kinda factors are it will be auto, obtaining a sports system, and used as a daily driver and occasional light towing. so all that in mind can you help me to help him decide.. thanks. tim

If you order the Barra220, im pretty sure you also have to get the 17" wheels, sports suspension and LSD so that may affect your choice

Re: BA i6 v BA 220 V8

My work mate has the 220 xt and he is wrapped with it, had a few issues(mainly Dealer related) but overall it has bags of grunt and goes really well. Tows a nice big boat with out any problems, sits well on the road also. He is about to put an exhaust on it soon.

Overall if I didn't get the XR8 I would have been happy with his car.
Quite a sleeper as well :)

Apparently the exhaust is one of the things they really skimped out on, pretty restrictive apparently

I think you'll find that, if you order a V8 all that comes in the V8 upgrade..

Well watever the case is, its all in fineprint on the brochure that when you order the V8, it comes with the suspension and wheels

Yeah, but he is worried it wil "stand out" like an XR with the wheels. He wants a non-descript sleeper.

Re: BA i6 v BA 220 V8

Tell your Dad to go for a drive in the BA 6 and to floor it all the way to the cutout!!!
He won't need a V8 unless he wants to hear the burble.
The 6 flies, gets up a nice growl as the revs rise.

Re: BA i6 v BA 220 V8

hehe.. hes never liked XR's for some reason.. had all stock falcons.. 2 EB's and an EL ..
i think hes more leniant to the 220 cos he hasnt had a V8 since the XE or watever it was before the EB. he will be test driving in a few weeks, shiftwork ruins ur life!! But hey from what ive read im pumping for the 220, he wants to put AU S1 XR's on it, ive seen a cupple with them and they look tough.. oh well, keep the thoughts coming, ill let him know as they come.. regards

Re: BA i6 v BA 220 V8

Both beautiful engines. The 6 will return much better fuel economy, but the 220 will be a much nicer thing to live with. Both are quite advanced engines and mated to the SSS auto will drive beautifully.

Sounds like a Falcon Mk2 Classic with alloys and a DVD sounds the go for Dad being understated. I think they are the same price as a standard XT. You are option one with a V8 if you want.
