Hi,

I've got a BA that has an erratic interior fan. Sometimes it wont turn on, sometimes it wont turn off from flat out and sometimes it keeps running after I've turned off the car and taken the keys out !!

Basically, it cripples the car. My wife won't be able to use it until its sorted.

Does anyone know whether the fan is controlled by a separate controller or is it controlled by some single monolithic 'computer' ?? What do you think I need to replace ??

This problem can be caused by one of two things. There will be a short in the connector behind the passenger side headlight that will keep the fan on(mainly due to it not being watertight, so this problem will be more evident after washing the engine or on shitty weather) or your HIM (the module that controls the A/C, fan, etc) is busted, which is unfortunately very common. You'll need to pull the centre console and the dash out to get to it, so it's major work. They are also expensive, so if it's out of warranty make sure this is the problem before you replace it.

Thanks for the reply.

I suspect it is the potentiometer inside the control unit. We regularly jiggle it back and forwards to get it to work. Problem is that the $5 part is not replaceable but the $1800 control module is !!!

Remind me again about how this integration thing is better for me ... I'm wanting to play mp3's in the car now too !!

Some serious *&^%$ kicking is needed.
