When the 5speed in my BA warms up, it occasionally sticks in 3rd (with increasing frequency the longer you drive it) and also sometimes in 1st. It varies from requiring a little more effort than usual to get it out of gear, to requiring a significant yank to get it out of gear.

Anyone else had this problem? Anything it's likely to be symptomatic of?

Why don't you ask the dealer about it.

I'm sure they will tell you that "They all do that", and it's an "operational charactersitic of the vehicle" It seems to be the only response i got from ford even after an NRMA inspection showed up problems with my gearbox..........

Not surprisingly, the dealer seems somewhat disinterested in issues of drivetrain refinement/useability.

The fact that it only happens when warmed up, and them only driving the car for 2min doesnt help either.

Adelaide. Currently getting it serviced by Stillwell in the CBD (only well-located dealer near me).

Take it to Maughan Thiem!!!! Im in Adelaide, and SOUTH but I get all my warranty work done there. Stilwell have a bad reputation as to Adrian Brien now - I wouldnt go to either of them. Maughan Thiem are worth the travel.

I have not had any of those problems but have had buggered clutch, which is being rebuilt no questions asked.

Hi Kasper, I had a similar problem with mine but it went away at about 18,000k's from memory.

I recently drove a new manual XR6 and my gearbox was freer than it so it seems they eventually loosen up. Also, the new one I drove had the Momo knob, which for some reason made the shift feel better!
