Hey guys. On some of the threads I have noticed people saying they are hearing rumours about fitting a turbo exhaust to a NA XR6.

Well I have done it! It seems to improve power but I intend to time the car from 0 to 160km/h next week with the standard exhaust and with the turbo stuff fitted. will see.

The exhaust note at idle is quite nice, its deeper and has a rumble to it. Once you increase the revs though it starts to sound like crap. it barks and pops on decel too. at 100km/h its to loud in the cabin for me. To me it sounds like an old 253 holden ute thats a B&S basher. if thats your thing then go for it but i think its shit.

how do we get our hands on a XR6T exhaust?? can it be fitted to a normal XT falcon?

the exhaust of the standard 6 is used from the manifold to the end of the catalitic convertor pipe, which ends just after the tranmission. You can see the tail shaft centre beating in the picture. The rest of the exhaust is turbo stuff using the intermediate muffler and the rear muffler and pipes. It all goes straight on inplace of the original stuff, using the hangers and all. You just have to modify the front of the intermediate pipe to join the single pipe. I used the "Y" pipe from the V8 exhaust to make the change from dual to single pipe. You could buy the turbo stuff that you need from a dealer but it would cost around 1k. bit much. I suggest looking to the exhaust places and see if they have removed any during a exhaust upgrade! Some in sydney should have I know of a few up that way!

This exhaust will fit and sedan in the BA range unless its straight LPG as i dont think there is room for the rear muffler!

i personally wouldn't do this exhaust mod as it sounds crappy to me. I will be trying other things like just using the rear muffler and tailpipe from the turbo and see what thats like. will keep you posted!

Very interesting stuff harasn! I liked the idea of putting a turbo exhaust on the N/A XR6. Sadily the end result doesn't sound (no pun intended) that good. :hrm:

It will be interesting to see what else you can come up with harasn. :s6: Keep the info comming!

Has anyone else done mods to the NA 6 cylinder.

Theres been lots of talk for the turbo and 8, but I think there would be a good amount to be gained.

Has anyone got an idea of what is achievable?

can you explain to me in a bit more detail what the sound post change was like. I was really hoping this would be a quick and easy hp increase.

I'm guess I'm just wondering if you don't like it coz it sounds ricey?

As a long time ricer (before I saw the light and bought the BA), I can attest that there are some exhausts outthere that make decent performance gains but sound relatively crappy.

Is it along these lines or does it just sound so so bad as to be unliveable?
