Hey everyone,
just got home from taking my new xr8 ute for a drive around the city (sydney), and i was driving near the rocks ,and this commodore police car on the other side of the road puts his arm out and flags me down. I stopped and put my window down, and he said in a rude manner , "SWITCH OFF THE FOG LIGHTS MATE OR ILL FINE YOU!NOW SWITCH THEM OFF"
i was shocked and said what ? he said the fog lights i said oh okay, and i pressed the button and said no worriez.and i drove off.
He was pretty rude about it, like my mate in the car said at least he couldve been nice about it and not snap ;like an idiot.
Didnt really bother me anyway, but im just wondering
Is it illegal to drive with them on during the day/night.?

First are they Yellow or White ?? Yellow (Fog) can only be used in foggy conditions
White are DRIVING lights, only to be used at night OUTSIDE a built up area (no street lighting). It's about cops started to warn/fine people for the wrong use of these lights.
THEY are not toys, or to make your ride look good, they quite often dazzle the oncoming drivers. The cops wasn't nasty, most likely pissed off with all the people driving with them on just to look cool.

yeah, best to just save them for when youre on the highway or whatever. i have driving lights on my EF, i got fined for using them in a builtup area ($76!) so now i only ever use them on the way home - country road for about a half hr.
Mate the cop was nice. If I get people driving with these lights at me they get all 570 watts of my high beam in return. Have a think about what these lights do to people who are trying to make a living on the road. They add to glare, they add to tired eyes and they distract attention. Worse, they also deprive other drivers of a sense of proportion making it harder to judge distance. Some models such as later SS Commodores and Astras have these lights which are virtually the same as high beam.
So, turn them off and use them for what they're meant for - driving in fog. Don't use them on the highway either.

Oh, and they are definitely illegal to use in normal driving. I wish the cops would fine every second car bthat are using these things!

I didnt know about that rule and found out the hard way... I just remembered you didnt need to use your headlights when you have your driving lights on (forgot that part that said "in fog") and was fined $76.Thought fog lights were only yellow, didnt know the driving lights are considered FOG lights... What got me mad though, was that the guy that fined me (was a RBT) didnt fine a guy in a VX SS that pulled in just after me! I asked the cop why he didnt fine that guys, his reply, "Didnt see it mate!" Wasnt impressed...

Why did you have them on in the first place?
Nothing sh$ts me more than the number of tossers who drive with their fog lights on.
It's almost like they are trying to prove to everyone that they didn't buy an executive/xt base model commodore/falcon.
I wish the cops would have a crackdown on the illegal use of these things.
Both my cars have fog lights, they do NOT get used, except in fog (ie not too often).
First of all the driving lights on the BAs are FOG lights but are white and i would have assumed that driving with them on would not blind other drivers as they dont glare like the Driving lights and as a saftey issue also help ,so driving with the fog lights on shouldn't be illegal .

GTP320 what colour are they.
If they are yellow/orange they are FOG lights.
If they are clear/white they are DRIVING lights.
