Hi All,

I've just been informed by my dealer (after two months since my order was lodged) that the spare alloy I ordered cannot be supplied as I have not ordered premium-brakes. They are saying that this is a mandatory option with Premium brakes and unavailable otherwise.

I will be doing an aftermarket brake upgrade and require the spare to clear them.

Has anybody successfully ordered and received the spare alloy without the brakes?

Hahah what a load of Bull($*% maybe ford have changed their ideas about offering the spare wheel alloy, as to my knowledge you used to be able to get it without the premium brakes.

Got mine a month ago with a 5th alloy no problem (apart from finding the $380...). Unless it's a REAL recent policy change, he's talking crap.

Apparently it's a new rule from the factory. Seems like they can't be bothered the hassle of putting them on just any car, less chance of an error and less line complexity. Probably had some go on the wrong cars and the dealers hadn't charged. Should be some happy customers out there with a pleasant surprise and others pissed off they weren't fitted

It'll clearly be a lot easier and more profitbale for Ford to do it this way as they won't be flogging off so many wheels with such a small margin.

The sales-manager reckons he'll try to put on one during pre-delivery for the same price, but only because they allowed me to order it in the first place. From now on they won't be accepting orders for it.

Friend had a similar experience, told he couldn't have leather trim unless he also orders rear power-windows. Didn't intend to have rear passengers so didn't want them. Should've ordered a ute instead...

I ordered my XR8 with 5 x 18's just last week without premium brakes so it will be interesting to see how I go. Hopefully I just snook in on time but am bracing myself for some sorry tale from the dealer - but as I see it if the dealer accepted the order regardless of the factory position, the dealer should honour the contact UNLESS there is some fine print that say otherwise.

that happened to me. Had ordered 5 x 18's and then was told without premium brakes I could not get the 5.
Was even more pissed off when I saw the spare and it was a pissy 16.

I was lucky enough to get 5 x 18" alloys with my XR8. Indeed it does sound like crap.

Thats a pathetic move by Ford IMHO.

They take it away and make it an option with the BA, and now take it away all together. Gggrrrrrr.....

AHA!

I hear Ford is having problems with supply of alloys. Fact of life when so many XR's are being sold. SO, with so little margin being made on this option, compared to ridiculous margins on some other items, it makes sense to can it.

Doesn't make it a happier place for new buyers though.
