I had my ute back at the dealer today for a check on the rough starting that occurs occasionally.
When I picked it up tonight, I was told by the service manager that mine was the first BA they had ever seen that had NO error codes. None of the "garbage" codes that appear, nothing.
Should I be over the moon that mine has no error codes and is unique... or should I worry that it's not logging its errors?
President Ford. Service manager (Steve) said it was the first one they had seen with a clean slate.
Not sure what they were looking for, but I asked them to check for excess fuel consumption, and rough starts.
I was told the reflash was for rough idle/stalling only. But the upcoming service managers meeting is to be held at FPV so hopefully something will come out of it.
You are not alone toolman. I have had several visits to my friendly family Ford dealer over this problem in my BA XR8. DO you get hard starting, missfiring, running on 4 cylinders while the others wake up, poor acceleration, fuel economy like 26l /100 around town, and not much better on a run. Well there is no fix. I have had purge valve replaced, and most other things, and still no fix. it is so damn elusive it happens like every blue moon. Stuffed one day, and runs fantastic for 7-10 days then off it goes again. I know mine is going off by the harsh auto changes, and I mean Harsh!! Even FPV are involved in this and they cant figure it out.. Of late when starting cold, my idle goes to hyper mode between 1000-1500 rpm This is a new symtpom!!! but then it comes right and it drives perfectly. Back tot he dealer on Sept 8th for 3 days at least. NOT HAPPY..
I have 33 litres per 100 km displaying at the moment... and I travel from Melbourne to Ocean Grove 4 times a week... (100kms on the Freeway). I put over 220 litres of fuel in the ute last week... I can justify that by saying I didn't buy it for its fuel economy and if it means dropping the power to save fuel... I won't touch it.
But the rough starts are another matter... and you're right, it's a sh!t to repeat on cue, but it feels like it's only running on 4 pots... that's for sure.
I only drive in sequential mode so I don't know about auto changing. I will give it a go in auto for the next few days and let you know.
