BA XR8 questions

Hi all,
just wondering if you could give me a bit of advice and answer a few questions for me?

What position should the temp guage read when in normal conditions?

There is what sounds like a whine coming from the power steering (even when stationary), the car is only 200k's old, but is this normal? If so, will it go away?

And any tips/advice on running it in? (auto)

Cheers
Jim

ps. im sure ill think of more questions:)

Re: BA XR8 questions

Not sure about the first two questions Jim. I will have to go have a look and listen to mine. As for running it in, avoid the rev limiter for the first 1000km if you can, but don't be afraid to put it under load either. Vary your driving style is also important mixing sudden bursts of enthusiastic input from your right foot with general cruising.

In summary, don't be too gentle but on the other hand don't be too harsh either.
That's about it.

Re: BA XR8 questions

Jim, my XR8 ute's temp guage is always just over the 1/4 mark, hasnt ever gone higher even with the a/c on a hot day, and even with the underdrives in

As colville said vary your load on the car, go hard up hills in higher gears then coast down

Havent had any steering noises, only diff

GDay Ozzyjim

My Xr8 temp guage runs the same as Rodderz, just a tad over 1/4, The power steering pump time to go!!, I had the same problem at the same age, makes you wonder if they listen or just recycle!!!! On running in advice, just drive it, give it a nudge then back off, nothing to heavy like I said just enjoy it. I did change my engine oil and filter at 3000Km, and run Mobil 1 -10/30. I changed to Castrol at 10000km, but I am going back to Mobil 1

Enjoy the beast, I think that it is a great car, and the best XR yet

Re: BA XR8 questions

My temp guage in summer sits 2 mm below half, thermo cuts in at 1mm to half

This time of year just over quarter.

I didn't have any steering noises until dealer "upgraded" my steering during service, now I have some, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Running in... I drove mine like I intended to drive it once run in.

Enjoy the new car Jim...

Re: BA XR8 questions

Jim, the V8 XT has a power steering whine as well but it seems to normal as far as I know. I've heard quite a few XR8's and GT's now and most if not all have a slight whine if you listen for it. Don't let it worry you too much.
