Hi all,
just wondering if you could give me a bit of advice and answer a few questions for me?
What position should the temp guage read when in normal conditions?
There is what sounds like a whine coming from the power steering (even when stationary), the car is only 200k's old, but is this normal? If so, will it go away?
Not sure about the first two questions Jim. I will have to go have a look and listen to mine. As for running it in, avoid the rev limiter for the first 1000km if you can, but don't be afraid to put it under load either. Vary your driving style is also important mixing sudden bursts of enthusiastic input from your right foot with general cruising.
In summary, don't be too gentle but on the other hand don't be too harsh either.
That's about it.
My Xr8 temp guage runs the same as Rodderz, just a tad over 1/4, The power steering pump time to go!!, I had the same problem at the same age, makes you wonder if they listen or just recycle!!!! On running in advice, just drive it, give it a nudge then back off, nothing to heavy like I said just enjoy it. I did change my engine oil and filter at 3000Km, and run Mobil 1 -10/30. I changed to Castrol at 10000km, but I am going back to Mobil 1
Enjoy the beast, I think that it is a great car, and the best XR yet
It seems my temp guage is fine then, and im running it in like everyone has said too. Ill just have to watch the power steering noise, as long as it dont blow im ok with it but ill get the service guys to have a looksie anyway at 3k.
Would anyone have a pic of a BA XR8 with a bonnet guard? I dont really want one but i dont want chips on it either, if it looks ok with one on i might get one.
Jim, the V8 XT has a power steering whine as well but it seems to normal as far as I know. I've heard quite a few XR8's and GT's now and most if not all have a slight whine if you listen for it. Don't let it worry you too much.
