Ever since I picked up my new XR8 from the dealer I have had nothing but trouble with the factory installed sunroof. When the salesman was running through operation of the sunroof, the dam thing wouldn't close, which wasn't very convenient because it was pouring with rain. After 2 hours of waiting for service people to recify the problem they came back with an answer that it went into fault mode because one of the buttons was held for more than 3 seconds. This to me, sounds like a lot of codds wallop, I can't believe that ford would have a system that is so fragile. Consequently, this put a damper on picking up my brand new XR8 and it left me very apprehensive on using the sunroof, especially on a cloudly day. Since then another problem has arisen, when I turn the ignition off it is suppost to auto close which it does but then is opens and closes repeatedly. I have had it checked at the first service it was okay for awhile but has started to open/close/open/close etc again! Has anyone had any similar problems to this?
Sounds like a load of crap to me - what the dealer said I mean. My current car (vxss) has a sunroof and I've had no problems what-so-ever. It's a Euro import (standard) and I've held the buttons down for ages without what you've described. Having done a decent amount of electronics at uni (engineer), it's either a design fault (doubtful) or you've got a dud.
Can you give me an update when you find out what's going on? My G220 is arriving in early November with a sunroof. Might not be a bad idea to know what to look for if it's going to be a problem.
my xr8 roof has had no such problem's - however I do recall a few people mentioning this early in the year when I was hunting for sunroof info.
I would have a good look around the forum, I think you will find others have had this drama, only for it to be a simple problem that will put your mind at ease. Sorry I can't be of any more help, I just can't recall where I read the threads.
Cheers,
Philbie

" i will own another V8, just what type of body it's in is another question. "
Mine's done this occasionally. Have sussed out it's the pop-up wind deflector that seem a bit sticky in both up and down positions. EG when the roof opens, there is sometimes a delay before the thing pops up. When the roof kept almost closing and then opening again, I just pushed the wind deflector down a few times and it then closed OK.
Will pop into the local agents for the sunroof (fitted aftermarket, but the same one Ford, Holden etc use) and see if it just needs a bit more lubrication or something more drastic.
Had the same problem, and it is the wind deflector. There are 2 screws on each side, Webasto Hollandia agent showed me how to fix it, loosen it and slideit back a tad. The deflector at times catches at the front rubber seal. Spray with a little silicone grease and works great. Let me know if you need further help.
As for the button 3 sec thing tonyb its a load of crap.

The 3 sec thing i beleive is to set the sunroof up for auto position. What you can do is teach the 1 & 2 buttons to do what you want them to do. I've had similar problems with my roof, but it's wind noise that's annoying me when it's fully closed. I can hear the wind big time, and in my old mazda 626 which also had a sunroof, it was as quiet as a mouse. I'd be going nuts at the dealer and getting FPV to replace the control system. That's simply not good enough.
but it's wind noise that's annoying me when it's fully closed
You need to get the dealer to check the packing and the adjustment of the glass so as it is flush with the roof panel. I had the same problem, now i get slight wind noise only and it is almost gone when i have the shade fully closed.
Thanks babluf,
the direction on how to fix the sunroof problem worked like a treat.
It's been a week now since I adjusted the wind deflector and no such problem with repeated opening and closing.
