Thumbs up Best-Selling Australian Muscle Cars - 2004

A question often asked is how many XR/XR6/XR8's have sold to date and what about the dark-side.

Well here's a little bit of VFACTS info from last Wednesday's Drive (3/11/04):

Sales 2004 to end of September (doesn't specify if sedans only or not):

Ford Falcon XR6: 8168
Holden Commodore S/SV6: 5667
Holden Commodore SS: 3303
Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo: 2690
Ford Falcon XR8: 1875
Holden Monaro: 1615
HSV ClubSport/R8: 1391
Ford Falcon GT/GT-P: 881
Holden Commodore SV8: 610
HSV Coupe: 213

That's interesting, it quantifies what you "think" might be happening. One surprise is how few SV8 Commodores are sold, clearly if people are going to buy a performance V8 Commodore they go the whole hog and get an SS. Also not great sales of the FPVs. Thanks Madder.

Agreed Outback, XT V8 and S V8 are the best budget performance buys around.

From what date are those figures set? Surely that's not since the first BA rolled off the show room? I see XR6's everywhere I go, and that's just in Melbourne alone, there is no way they have only sold 8168. 8168 is still a massive figure, but it just seems there is way more on the road, I see more XR6's than I do XT sedans on some days!

Well why wouldn't you opt' for an XR6 over the base Falcon XT/Futura they are only a couple g's more, lot's of company vehicle's are XR6's, so it doesn't surprise me to see the XR6 leading the pack, the XR8 is a little worrying though.

The XR6 is not a muscle car to me, it is a done up XT..

Holden is selling more muscle cars than Ford are if you read those figures properly!

Re: Best-Selling Australian Muscle Cars - 2004

Gee, lucky i sold my BA XR6 when i did. I wouldn't want to be selling in the near future......With that many on the road, and companies taking them up for company cars, the resale value will plummet even further...........

It happens to all cars. New models come out, price drops. So many on the market, price drops.
