Was it a factory option to have your grille painted black on the XB's? As far as I've been able to find out from my brother in Ford, standard was silver.

So what's with all the 'original' grilles being sold that are black? even GS/GT ones.

just curious....

also, anyone with spare NOS or GC standard XB grille (silver) spare in QLD, let me know as I'm looking to buy.

From what I've got here stock single head light ones are silver and GS/GT are totally black.

it would depend on exterior colour as to whether the grille was silver or black. to make sure find some original press release photos.

I've had one of each both unpainted. I painted the stock one (silver one) black as it looked better. I also removed the chrome from both. My new Fairmont came with a factory black grille The downfall? It hasn't faired well after 30 years.
