Guaranteed to be upsetting and/or alarming for a few�

Interesting news from a fellow XR8 Ute driverer. Met him before I got mine and he'd had his since March. Ran in to him again and asked him how things were going. �Good except for the bit where my engine died.� Turns out that in all his past retro cars he did religious oil and fluid checks. With the spanking new XR8 got lulled into a false sense of security and at 12000k�s, dead!!.

No oil!!!

Ford and the dealer looked after him well with a new engine stamped with the right numbers, just the inconvenience of a few days wait. The new engine has clocked up 5000 and he �babied� it (as opposed to leaving the dealer sideways) for the first grand or so, 1litre burnt. Boy his LS1 mates are giving it all back to him. Dealer just tops it up but if it continues in goes engine #3.

Myself, 5000+ and negligible usage.

How are all you Boss owners going?

I just don't check the oil....... Mine is on oil watch now anyhow.

Changed Oil at 1500km with 500ml used.
Changed again at 3000 service. Barely a drop used since . 8400km on the clock

Changed oil at 3000 and it was getting close to needing top up to say in the normal range. Given the type of motor it is and the fact it is new, I think thats pretty reasonable.

150 BOSS engines (260 & 290) were affected when launched. Problem was quickly pin pointed and rectified, so hopefully it should be the last we will hear of the matter.

Hardly as appalling as the LS1 issues. Oil was just ONE of them.

Mines using a bit of oil (xr8). Had the 2000k service done and now with 5000k has used about approx 250ml which is not worth worrying about. Then again I have never owned a Ford V8 that never used a certain amount of oil.

I've never owned a V8 full stop, so I'm just bloody happy that all remains well with mine. The only problem is one of the connecting rods in the tailgate has failed meaning a large screwdriver is required for levering the right-side latch. Had it fixed once and am worried if I fix it again something else will break. Talk about crazy, tailgate not working on a ute.

I've got to say that this guy is not exactly an angelic driver. Took me for a quick spin, manual, herrods zorst, Melbourne weather (aquaplane city).

Uphill, breaks traction gets it to 5000rpm, holds it there while he slams into second, holds it through second for a while, slams it to third, after a few more seconds finally traction comes into play, meanwhile we've hit the 70km speed limit and are couple of hundred metres down the road all the while sitting on 5 grand, holding one beautiful note the whole bloodytime. His mate can do the same thing through to 4th/5th; CAPA SC kit!!

This guy used to drag a V8 Cortina and has put in some serious hoon hours buy the sounds of it. Likes to drag Maloos with his trailer on back. In any case he's been made aware of FF and him and his mates may be dropping by soon.
