Hi Guys,
This is my second post in fordforums.com so if I do anything or say anything wrong, please forgive me :) I am from Adelaide, Australia.
My old VN Calais (boo) has been getting to a point of being undrivable due to stalling and random revving, and I had already thrown too much cash at it, well over $1000. It was going to cost alot more. I decided to trade it in for a Falcon Forte AU III '02 model. Its a rich blue, and has a spoiler, rear window sunguard in the same colour, alloys, and cruise control as an add-on. Its done 45,000km and has half a year of factory warranty still on it. Its from a Mazda used car dealership, it had an RAA green light. The only issue mentioned in the entire report was a slightly audible noise from the muffler, but would last for years. It was priced at $19,990, I haggled it to $18,990, and got $2,500 trade-in for my screwy VN Calais.
I'm paying $250 a fornight over 5 years.
How did I go?
Also, I need insurance for the contract to proceed tomorrow when I get the car. I've tried:
AAMI: wont approve due to more than one modification (spoiler, alloys) and referred me to Just Car insurance.
Just Car Insurance, $1350 but it has to be paid in full up front within 14 days. I want to pay by the month.
RAA: No quote as yet.
Allianz: $2500.
SGIC: $2100.
Budget Direct: This one is a doozie. I was offered $1300 over monthly payments. I process the application over the phone to find out that they wont insure me. I have had one speeding fine with no demerit points, one accident where my car was parked and she ran in to the back of me, and accidently overlooking a few parking fines which suspended my drivers license for a total of 24 hours before I paid in full. I was rejected. For this. What does insurance and my driving ability have to do with any of this? (except the speeding fine but we all get em, its only 1)
Suncorp: $2200.
GE Finance: $2300.
Shannnons: Wont process online apps for under 25s (im 19yo, male, and have a rating 5)
NRMA: $2200.
I have a permanent full time job, have had this job for 1.3 years and did 3 years of casual work before that.
Who else can I try? I need to have the insurance over the phone to get the certificate of currency to be faxed to the dealership so I can get it for work tomorrow as I cant get there without it.
Re: Bought: Falcon Forte AU III '02. Need: Insurance.
What kind of quotes are they? I have my 00' futura insured in my 22 yr old brothers name with 1 accident and thats like 700$. First time insurance in his name too. Thats with suncorp. I was told things like spoiler, mags etc were ok and didnt affect the cost of the insurnace. Were these quotes for full comp agreed value?

What kind of quotes? Comprehensive. Remember im 19yo and on rating 5, and ive only got off my P's in July after being on them for half a year. It will be more expensive for me.

A slightly audible noise from the muffler? That's a good thing that, lets you know its still alive. Insurance is a bloody rip off. I am 35 and have only ever held third party, lol. Oh I have never owned a car less then 10 years old or under finance either :-P I am amazed the number of people who actually fork out for comprehensive insurance for shitters worth less then 3 grand. I guess they have been taught to be "responsible", either that or 3 grand is a lot of money o them, but the. But then $1500 insurance, for NOTHING is a lot of money to me.

I'd go back to AAMI, and see how you go with a different operator.
The alloys and rear spoiler are still non standard accessories, ie: they were chosen as extras when the car was originally bought, and therefore I need to inform the insurance company of them or they may not pay me when I need to claim.
I've gone with JCI - they are the only one that offers cheap insurance (under $2000) at $1350 and that also accept me - but I need to pay the full $1350 within 14 days. I've requested that this go in to the loan.
