Chip

Hey All,

I was wondering what sort of chip goes good with a AU Falcon?

Powerchip
Chiptorque
SSV Chip
UniChip

Any help would be appreciated, as well as power and pricing for the Chips

Hi Black,

I asked this same question a few months ago, and everyone highly
recommended the UniChip.

The UniChip is a bit more expensive, as it is fully reprogrammable. The
price is $1155 including fitting, Dyno and GST. If you get it done at
Croydon Autosport's (who are in Silverwater) speak to Jim - he is giving
me a discount on mine for being in the Tickford club. (I am getting mine
done in March)
It will take up to 6 hours to install this.
check out - www.airpowersystems.com.au

The Powerchip is not reprogrammable - They come in 3 different
'flavours' (gold, silver and bronze) and range from $715 to $935. I dont
think these prices include the fitting.
check out - www.powerchip.com.au

The New Chiptorque chips are reprogrammable. But there are a lot less
parameters to adjust compared to the UniChip. The cost is $595 (not
including the Dyno). I spoke to David and Silverwater Automotive about
them 2 weeks ago, and he says it will take up to 4 days to install.

As for the SSV chip, when I asked them at the end of last year, they
told me they only did Chips for Commodores. (?!?!)

If you are planning on doing any other modifications in the future, the
UniChip would be a good investement, plus you can always take it with
you to your next car.

:-)

P.S - The guys at Croydon Autosports are Ford nuts. There work ute is an
AU XR8 stroked out to a 347, Unichiped, and about a million other mods.
that thing really goes.!!!

Thanks for the info Kelli.

Yeah I called Croydon Autosports, and asked about the best chip for the Falcon. He recommoned the Unichip. He never said that they were Ford Nuts down there.. heheheh

But what he did tell me was that they just done a XR6 and its power gain was 13 KW's at the Wheels.

Hmm any chance of you getting Dnyo CHarts and posting them on the web site or email them to me?? If you have a scanner..

ngw@technologist.com

I guess I better start saving.. casue I would like a CAM for it too.. Whats there to do at Silverwater while i'm waiting??

I've got a Local Place on the Northern Beaches, but they never rang me back with a Quote.. So I guess they have lost my business now..

Hi,

I will definatly put the dyno charts up on the web, after it is done.

It will probably be mid march, as I am getting the clutch and flywheel done next monday. (The clutch has been dying for the last 2 months)So there goes another $800.

:-)

Hi

Ouch that would hurt the budget. Especially with the Christmas credit card bills coming in and all the other bills.

Wow a manual.. We don't get to see too many XR8's around the place.. I'm a little by the fact that people are buying an XR8 sports car in an Auto. Sure we are in the city, but if you want the extra performance.. You must buy Manual. hehhehe

At the moment.. My car is putting out 160BHP which is about 119KWs at the wheels. Not bad after a Full Sports Exhaust

:O)

Hi XR8Chic
You seem to have researched "Chipping" very well. In your manouvers did Croydon Autosports or other tuning houses mention issues about fuel in general? eg PULP or Shell Optimax as opposed to standard ULP? Is it better to tune with PULP or ULP? after the mods.
Do you see any advantage in running on just PULP or Optimax instead of ULP?
Regards

Hi Jaffa,

When I was talking to Croydon Autosports and Silverwater Automotive, they both said they would need to know what fuel I use, as they need to factor that into the programming of the Chip to suit the car.

I have run only PULP for the last 2.5 years, mainly for the slight increase in performance, and the extra 40 km's extra per tank.
When Shell Optimax came out, I started using it and got an extra 30km's per tank on top of what I was normally getting with other brand PULP.

So I guess it's probably best to get the car tuned in with the fuel that you normally use.

:-)

P.S - Will, There isnt really much to do in Silverwater, unless you know someone to visit someone in the silverwater correctional facility. (hehe)

LOL Thanks Kelli..

hmmm Well then I might have to do a Gaol tour then.. hehehhehe.. Nah. I think that I would have to be dropped off and then pick up the car at a later time..

What do you all think about the Caltex Vortex? I have been told that it isn't that good and it can casue your care to ping. Shell Optimax is great. The 98 Octane. I have heard that BP has brought out 98 Octane PULP too.. Still have yet to try it out.

Jaffa if you do get the car Chipped it is always better to get it tuned for PULP 95. That way if you get a Unichip it can use all the fuel fields and you will get the extra power and performance. If you opt for Optimax and have it tuned for that you might run into trouble where you won't be able to get the 98 Octane. Unless you use a Octane boost. Which I don't really know much about.

G'day Black S,
I've just come back from a driving holiday over the xmas break and have covered approx 5000k's in three weeks. With all the places I went I filled up with a variety of fuels and kept a log. I used ULP and PULP as well as Optimax from all suppliers and my EL2 XR8 pinged severely on only the Caltex/Ampol Premium (Same fuel), but never pinged on Shell or B.P. ULP or PULP. I just got home from towing my boat about 600ks this weekend and it ran on Optimax fine but on the way home I had to use Caltex Vortex and straight away it started pinging again !!!

Anyone had this problem?

BTW, my car is standard with standard ignition timing.

Go figure.
