He suggested a full exhaust system and some intake work...this should produce the extra 20 to 25kw that i want (although really thats not enough either).
What would a Ford auto accessary person know about eec's
The dealers won't/ can't fix anything thats std {so forget any mods and to get them to fix]..
Piggy back if you must is the only way.{Like seperate e.c.u}Totaly different to chips which are a ripp off pluss you don't know what they realy are..I know of one rippoff prick that used to paint std chips put em back in and charge $700.oo.+

Another thing about self learning? Put high flow heads, H.P cam,High flow inlet,I bet the eec5 won't run it properly! It's a load of sh!t about eec learning.Learning yes but only to a small degree, within a certain window. Like a moded engine @ idle needs more air but the eec has been told that it's too much..It's outside it's window!!!Causing surge, stumbling etc...

I have been there,I bet the Ford accessary guy hasn't touched a spanner, but big mouth's because of his uniform etc and people listen to this crapp!!! Worse still believe it!!!..

Thanks for your response ebxr8240, I'm not real good at making myself clear. The person I was talking about wasnt a Ford Dealer Auto accessory person. This person is a reputable Ford aftermarket person who has been building race engines for some fairly big names. I would think that if you're doing a full blow race engine you would need some extra punch..............otherwise the use of the motec system for the V8 supercars wouldnt be required. My impression was that if you're just thinking about puting in a chip to extra power that you would be disapointed. Whereas if you get a larger cold air intake and a decent exhaust system you are more likely to achieve extra power and fuel economy.

Has anyone put a decent exhaust and larger cold air inlet on a AU XR8 yet......and tested that on a dyno?

Well if you're talking about putting a chip in a completely standard car than you probably are wasting your money. There can be some slight gains but the engine still can't physically breathe any better than it could before. So you do your headers/exhaust/intake first and then you can have a unichip (or whatever) dyno-tuned to help the EEC take advantage of the increased breathing.

Also a few months ago (ok, more than a few) Street Machine Chipped and chucked a new exhaust on a 220kW SS. They got around 250kW after the mods.

Be carefull the parts used in this set up advertise in that mag so naturally they will make them look good. This has long been an issue with mm&ff in the states...Not saying it's not true...BE warned...

Roger::
Yes thats what I meant the std eec5 cannot learn that much esp when it comes to full out race motor.OR if you can it'll cost as much..These days too there are mechanics/machinists then there are tuners that play with efi basically auto electricians working with computors,"lucky bustards don't get their hands dirty"... On the other hand just because say a guy can put together a fast mill doesn't mean that he can tune a std ecu either... TO many vairables these days....EVERYONE[company] is learning though they WON'T tell you that HA !!!

So ebxr8240
What I can deduce from all of this is:

Std AU1 XR8 185Kw
cold air intake 5Kw
Decent exhaust inc Extractors 20Kw
and A chip (unichip) around 10Kw

I should have my 220Kw XR8.....which should be able to beat a new Corolla and most probably a Std shopping center Pulsar too?

i rekon you should get a little more from the chip if the engine has exhaust and cold air fitted as it can make better use of these mods.

its hard to say each mod will add [X Kw] and there for all these mods will give me Y Kw... Its more that each mod helps the other (freer air flow in and out of engine, better A/F mixtures etc etc) and you have a more lively, powerful car..

Anyway on a different note, does anyone know of any I6 (EF to AU) using a crow cam (other than me) PM or Email (ghentboy@ebbs.com.au) if you do.. i have a question or two.
thanks!
