I currently drive a 94 EF Fairmont Ghia, stock as a rock. Not bad condition, paintwork could be better, auto on its way out in the next 12 months for sure.
Would you guys keep this car or go a white manual EF XR6, pretty schmick condition...not sure on price yet...but if it wasnt too much more than your current car, which would you pick?
The sporty manual, or keep the toy laden ghia?
Also is there a big difference in insurance prices between similar aged Fairmont Ghia and XR6? I seem to get that idea from online quotes.
Keep the Ghia. I coul very well get shot down here as it's been a while, but I am pretty sure the Ghia has the same engine as the XR6 anyway - but it's heaps cheaper to insure. Plus it's alot more luxurious, as you say more toys to play with.
Also changing over to another car is expensive and if the current one is fairly trouble free, why change to a car with the same power and possibly have problems and cost ya more in insurance.
My humble opinion.
Tim!

How much boost?
a 94 Ghia won't have the XR running gear.
IF the car is running well and there are no hassles. keep the Ghia.
Insurance is a strange thing, usually an XR WILL be more then that of a Ghia.
Shop around and see what you can find, i'd keep the ghia.

XR is much better, Ghia is a luxo barge carrying to much weight, plus a manual in the XR, too easy......

What's that?..... Did I hear you say TQE power?
just go for a Series 1 AU, couple of extra dollares but oh my, what a car.
Seriously, I would have said keep the ghia (luxury is nice) but if you can get a manual EF XR6, thats got to override everything. Manual is good, I miss my manual often.
/me still loves the auto though, clutches are expensive and drag racing kills them quick!
Stick with the Ghia, Not much point staying in the same model range if your going to end up paying more for the same year. Ghia's are always nicer the XR's IMHO.
im not to sure if its an EF or EL the car yard was closed today, and I ojly glance3d at it as I went by. What are the biggest differences in the EF/EL XR6 visibly?
Not sur ewhat year either, so it may be a step up, will phone them tomorrow get all the gen on it.
I really dont know what I would want more, the ghia or XR...its a hard choice...The XR6 had a better suspension setup didnt it? And the XR had the tickford engine yes/no? Again depending on the model/year.
I think it the white XR with the red stripe looks schmick and I love those twin headlights, but the ghia wouldnt suit them.
I reckon the XR would be easier to add more features to like the climate control etc....as I go, than to get the ghia more to how i want it, as it needs bonnet respray, bumpers need resprayed, auto will shit itself within 12 months for sure, wheels aint in perfect condition.
I just reckon the XR is a getter starting point for mods etc..
Seems a lot of mixed opinions here by people....will be easier to decide once i get model/year/price tomorrow when I phone.
hhmmmmm......
