Crystal Ball for XR vs SS

Been looking in to the Crystal Ball today at work.....
(Been checking out the US online mag Car and driver)

And this is what I can deduce,

It aint easy to find direct comparisons for the XR vs SS war but I would say the Corvette vs Mustang GT gives a good idea what we will get.

Corvette 2005 (SS)
What it got 6.0L 400hp (298kw) 400lp/f(542nm)
Six speed manual
4 speed auto
3 suspension types (unlikely for SS)

Mustang (2005) (XR)
standard 4.0L 202hp (150.49) 235lb/f (318.6nm) 2 valves
GT 4.6L 300hp (223kw) 315lb/f (427nm) SOHC VCT 3 valves
SVT 4.6L supercharged 390+++ HP SOHC VCT (got to beat a M3 easily)
5 speed manual
5 speed Auto

Things to get from all this.
1. If (probably when) the SS gets the 6L lump it will be stuck with the 4 speed auto a big plus for the ford camp but it will now have the adaptive shift like we do.
2. The BOSS may get VCT as well??
3. Supercharging looks to be the Ford way for the top of the line look at the list
SVT COBRA 4.6 Supercharged
SVT Lightning 5.4 Supercharged
The Pace car for a whole company 5.4 Supercharged
--> FORD GTHO --> Dont take no genius.......

4. Last point is it me or does Ford Australia have to send the Barra to the US in a hurry or what?

Ball Out.

Re: Crystal Ball for XR vs SS

They have the alloy Duratec V6, why would they want the heavy as ass iron black Barra? Makes no sense...if anything, the Falcon is likely to pick up the V6, albeit with *maybe* a bigger capacity than the 3L it is now.

The strong money is on the locally developed 5 speed auto going in the VZ similar to what BAII will *probably* recieve. Its almost a given at this stage.

Unless they can economically add the VCT I dont think it will be seen until the new model in 2006/2007. I would expect that the GTHO will be in the new model, they dont have the funds surplus to play around and develop the GTHO just at the minute....

Re: Crystal Ball for XR vs SS

NOOOO V6 Long live the heavy as ass iron block Barra I6 im sure an alloy block could be engineered if they thought that it was too heavy. I really hope ford dont go to a V6. The americans probably would also like some cars that have some quality in their manufacture, ones that drve decently and have rear wheel drive.
