We purchased a new BA XR8 & drove to QLD at Xmas , half way there it
created a diff whine between 95 & 110 kms. I took it to a dealer in QLD &
they checked the oil level & said ok but you will have to go to your selling
dealer in VIC.
Dealer in vic drove car & said it is bad , we will order you a new centre &
call you when it comes in.
They fitted a new centre and said all is ok,we picked up the car after repair
& found noise to be louder & a bad vibe in drive line, like a 4wd with mud
tyres on.
Took car back again dealer had car for 2 days & said our front wheels were
out of balance , how this happens while the diff is done is beyond me.
Picked car up still no good spoke to serv mng told me to bring it in & someone
will go with you on a testdrive.
Well we did this & technician said oh it is bad , we will have to bal tailshaft
but bal tool is not avail for 4-5 weeks and we suggest you drive the car very minimal if not at all but we cant give you a loan car, still waiting on ford.

V8RUMBLE

After my dealer acklowledged the diff was causing a whine in my XR8 at 95-105km/hr, I had to wait 2 months for a new diff centre. Then soon after I left the dealership, after the centre was replaced, I had very bad vibration above 70km/hr. I went back and took the service manager for a drive and he said the driveshaft needed to be balanced (they did a good initial test drive, telling me it was all good). The on-car balancer took over 6 weeks to arive. I was f#cking pissed off during this time as I didn't want to drive my car as I thought something else (eg the new diff) could be damaged if I drove it. During this time I never got a loan car, which pissed me off a bit.

I have heard a few people complaining of tail shafts being unbalanced after having their diffs or auto's looked at. Could it be the way they are putting them back in after they have taken them out?

The weights are mounted on plastic clips which clip on to the t/shaft bolts,
once they have been removed they dont clip on tight enough & can fly off.
